BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has proposed a P3.5-billion budget for 2018.
Provincial Budget Officer Percival Salado Jr. said they have forwarded the proposal to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
The total proposed amount – P3,546,727,000 – is 12-percent higher (P392,714,000) than this year’s P3,154,013,000, Salado said.
It covers the General Fund (internal revenue allotment share and local general fund income), Hospital Operations and Economic Enterprise (local income).
Provincial Board member Salvador Escalante said they hope to approve the proposed capitol budget by second week of December.
The proposal has hurdled first reading during the regular session on Wednesday.
Committee hearings on the proposed budget may be held twice weekly, the finance committee chairman said.
Escalante was considering every Tuesday and Wednesday, before the regular session starts.
According to Salado, the allocation for the third tranche of the Salary Standardization Law got a 16.51-percent increase in the 2018 budget.
Other notable increases in allocation were for the Calamity Fund (P160,000,000, from P146,800,000 this year) and the 20-percent Development Fund (P608,000,000, from P565,500,000 this year).
The allotment for Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), meanwhile, suffered a 24.59-percent cut – P281,339,454 for next year, from P373,056,614 this year – said the budget officer.
Salado assured that adjustments may be made on the MOOE allocation through supplemental budgets.
The budget for Peace and Order reduced, too – P10 million, from P15 million this year./PN
