NegOcc police seek ‘synchronized’ drug clearing ops with PDEA

BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is seeking to harmonize its barangay drug clearing operations with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The plan was discussed during the orientation and workshop on barangay drug clearing operations at the provincial police headquarters here.

Provincial police director Colonel Romeo Baleros said police units under NOCPPO need to collaborate with the PDEA, local government units and other partner agencies to fast-track the drug clearing operations in the province.

At present, only 98 out of the 601 barangays in Negros Occidental have been declared free from illegal drugs, according to authorities.

Nicolas Gomez, provincial officer of the PDEA-Negros Occidental and this city, presented updates on the barangay clearing program while Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mansueto, chief of the Cadiz City police station, discussed the process flow and strategy in barangay drug clearing operations.

Major Norberto Barniso, chief of the NOCPPO community affairs section, which facilitated the workshop, said around 160 police personnel attended the activity.

These included city and municipal chiefs of police and police-community relations and operations personnel.

In Negros Occidental, police operatives seized multimillion worth of suspected shabu in various operations in the first three weeks of January alone.

From Jan. 6 to 12, various drug enforcement teams seized suspected shabu valued around P2.8 million and 24 suspects were arrested.

Five suspects, meanwhile, were arrested last week in a buy-bust operation conducted by police operatives in Talisay City, Negros Occidental which resulted in the recovery of suspected shabu valued around P3.5 million.(With a report from PNA/PN)
