BACOLOD City — Building on the gains and milestones achieved in 2025, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental is set to roll out major development initiatives in 2026, according to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
Lacson made the announcement during the first flag-raising ceremony of the year at the Provincial Capitol on Monday, January 5.
He said the provincial government enters 2026 with renewed momentum, guided by the principles of good governance, sustainable growth, and strategic programs aimed at improving the welfare of Negrenses.
In his address, Lacson outlined key priorities for the coming year, including the operationalization of newly constructed abattoirs in Hinobaan, Cauayan, Binalbagan, Murcia, Toboso, and San Carlos City. These facilities are expected to enhance meat processing capacity while ensuring compliance with strict food safety and quality standards.
The governor also announced plans to further strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response through the establishment of E911 command posts and logistics hubs across Districts 1 to 6, aimed at ensuring faster and more coordinated responses during emergencies and calamities.
He added that several regional offices of the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR) are set to be established in the first quarter of 2026. These offices, to be located at the Cyber Center and the Paglaum Grandstand, are expected to improve regional coordination and enhance government service delivery.
“These initiatives reflect our firm commitment to sustaining progress, enhancing public services, and ensuring that development remains inclusive and responsive to the needs of our people,” Lacson said.
The ceremony was preceded by a thanksgiving Mass officiated by Fr. Aniceto Buenafe, which was attended by provincial officials, Capitol department heads, and employees./PN
