BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental recorded its sixth case of the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – an overseas Filipino worker from Bahrain.
The patient died of complications on Aug. 12 at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in this city, according to the San Carlos City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
The case’s swab sample was taken to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Metro Manila, and forwarded to the Philippine Genome Center for genomic sequencing.
According to Dr. Jessa Tiapon, head of the San Carlos City EOC’s Cluster on Health Management, upon receiving the patient’s results they immediately coordinated with the concerned barangay in San Carlos City where the patient resided.
The EOC advised them to monitor the close contacts and resume preventive quarantine while waiting for further advisory.
The patient is the second Delta-related fatality in Negros Occidental. The first was a five-year-old boy from Silay City. He died on Aug. 2.
The four other Delta cases were a 52-year-old overseas Filipino worker from Talisay City; a 21-year-old from La Carlota City; a 79-year-old woman from Pulupandan; and a 69-year-old woman from Valladolid. They have all recovered./PN
