Who will fill vacant seat in Bacolod City council?

BACOLOD City – Three months after the death of Councilor Elmer Sy, the vacancy he left in the Sangguniang Panlungsod remains unfilled.

According to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) here, the political party of Sy – Nationalist People’s Coalition – has the task of recommending his replacement.

Earlier, the city council passed a resolution seeking guidance from the legal department of the DILG on how to fill the vacant post.

Sy was the chairman of two committees: Public Works and Fire, Natural Disasters and Calamities.

The 65-yeasr-old Sy was Bacolod’s No. 11 councilor.

After his death, No. 12 Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., an independent candidate, moved up to the 11th spot.

According to Cong. Greg Gasataya, district chairman of NPC, he was waiting for communication from the local NPC party members led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia for their recommendation.

“After the local party submits it to me, I will forward it to the NPC national office for their approval,” Gasataya said./PN
