BACOLOD City – In case the National Inter-Agency Task Force approves the request of the provincial government of Negros Occidental for a travel moratorium, this may affect travelers bound for this city, too.
Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the Emergency Operations Center here, said the proposed moratorium covers travel via land, air and sea for two weeks.
The Bacolod-Silay International Airport being located in Silay City, there could be looming restrictions on travel by air, Sorongon said.
Meanwhile, this city had the Bredco and Banago ports for those travelers by sea.
Sorongon stressed they would discuss the matter with Bacolod City’s Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
To note, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson penned the request in a bid “to protect our constituents, our local economy and our future as a province.”
“If I stand idly, I fear that our gains in the past year will be put to waste, to the detriment of our people,” he previously said.
Lacson’s formal request was accompanied by illustrations and figures showing that the introduction of the uniform travel protocols allegedly resulted to an increase in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 in the province./PN
