MANILA – Negrense boxer Jay-R Raquinel needed just one round to dispose veteran Jack Amisa of Indonesia in their non-title match at the Caesars Palace in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
It was the second consecutive victory of the Candoni, Negros Occidental native this year after notching the OPBF flyweight title against Japanese Takuya Kogawa in August.
The 22-year-old Raquinel did not waste time imposing his presence on much-experienced Amisa on Friday evening with his quick attacks to the body and combinations that shut out the Indonesian for good.
Raquinel, who lost in his WBC silver flyweight match against Chinese Wulan Tuolehazi last year, said after the victory he was hoping to fight for a world championship eliminator in his next match.
“’Yan talaga ang target ko next, ‘yung makalaban sa world title eliminator para sa flyweight division,” said Raquinel.
With the victory, Raquinel saw his boxing record improve to 12-1-1 win-loss-draw, including nine stoppage wins.
The 32-year-old Amisa, on the other hand, dropped to 21-47-3, with 14 knockout victories./PN
