MANILA – Merlito Sabillo hopes to capture the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight belt when he battles defending champion Edward Heno tonight at the Gaisano City Mall in Bacolod City.

If he succeeds, it will be the second belt of the Toboso, Negros Occidental-native Sabillo in the light flyweight division after previously capturing the Asean Boxing Federation title.

Sabillo, a former World Boxing Organization minimumweight champion, said he is determined to score an impressive win against Heno in hopes of boosting his rankings for a possible world title clash soon.

“It is important for me to win to boost my rankings and possibly have another shot at world championship,” said the 33-year-old Sabillo. “So I will really prepare hard for Edward.”

Sabillo is set to parade an impressive record of 27-4-1 win-loss-draw, including 13 victories by way of stoppages.

The Baguio City-native Heno, on the other hand, had an unblemished record of 11-0-5 win-loss-draw, with five knockout wins.

Negrense Sonny Boy Jaro, meanwhile, will make his ring return when he faces fellow Filipino fighter Donny Mabao in the co-main event of the card presented by Highland International Boxing Promotions and supported by the Singwancha Foundation

This will be the first fight of the Silay City, Negros Occidental-native fighter following his shocking loss to IBF Inter-Continental super flyweight champion Jonas Sultan on May 2017.

Jaro, a former World Boxing Council flyweight champion, will be entering the match with a 43-14-5 win-loss-draw ring record, including 30 stoppage wins, while Mabao has 22-34-3 slate, with four stoppage wins./PN
