Negrenses set new records in 2019 Palaro

DAVAO City – Negrense tracksters spearheaded Western Visayas’ gold haul on the second day of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa yesterday by breaking two records at the University of Mindanao oval here.

Trexie dela Torre shattered the Palaro record in secondary girls long jump. She tallied 5.77 meters.

The previous record was 5.66 meters by Maricel Sibug of Southern Mindanao posted in 2002.

On top of her record-setting showing, the Romanito Maravilla National High School standout also clinched a bronze medal in secondary girls 100-meter dash.

Negrense Jamela de Asis, meanwhile, created a new record in secondary girls shot put with her 12.30-meter heave erasing the 11.88 meters of National Capital Region’s Kassandra Alcantara posted in 2018.

Ilonggo Alfrence Braza, on the other hand, captured a gold medal in secondary boys 5,000-meter dash while Blue Barons teammate Ritchie Estampador settled for a bronze medal finish.

Negrense Bernalyn Bejoy also delivered a gold medal for the Blue Barons. She topped the secondary girls 400-meter hurdles while Ilonggo Vince Jason Buhayan ruled the secondary boys 100-meter dash.

Ilongga Alexi Brooks topped the secondary girls 100-meter hurdles.

Kate Martinez clinched a silver in discus throw. Archie Sarabia also won a silver in discus throw while Mekyla Taborite had a bronze in elementary girls discus throw.

Laurence Andrew Rabanes also harvested a bronze in elementary boys long jump.

In taekwondo, Bacolodnon Jamie Hannah Agaloos and Ilongga Cindy Joy Diasnes captured gold medals each in secondary girls individual poomsae while Bago City native Ceanne Rosquillo also finished gold in secondary boys individual poomsae.

Agaloos and Diasnes won their second golds when they teamed up with Ilongga Sophia Tungala for the secondary girls group poomsae, while Ilonggo Cyd Edryc Esmana won gold in elementary boys individual poomsae.

Julianne Martha Uy, meanwhile, bagged silver in elementary girls individual poomsae while Rosquillo, Joshua Cachero and Jesserey Frantilla got the secondary boys group poomsae silver.
Uy, Elizabeth Borres and Niesha Pequierda ended with bronze in elementary girls group poomsae while Esmana, Julio Zapata and Clyde Chua placed third in elementary boys group poomsae.

In swimming, Silay City native Alexi Cabayaran beat the Palaro record in elementary girls 200-meter freestyle with two minutes and 15.76 seconds clocking.
In pencak silat, Mary Francine Padios won gold in secondary girls pencak silat tunggal putri event.

Zandro Jizmundo Jr. and Sidryl Gerardo won a silver in ganda double artistic and Mark Jhoniel Cabindol settled for bronze in solo artistic.
The Blue Barons also got a gold medal in the Para Games courtesy of Rodel Diaz of Iloilo National High School in the standing long jump visually impaired (low vision) category./PN
