Negros First ends World Series campaign with loss to Southeast

MANILA – Negros First capped off its campaign in the 2018 Junior League Softball World Series with a 2-3 loss to Southeast in the consolation round on Saturday at the Everest Ballpark in Kirkland, Washington.

Negros First, which represented the Philippines and Asia-Pacific, failed to sustain its strong start in the match to suffer a second straight defeat.

Josiemers Maguad, who played in lieu of Glecilyn Alipato, took the loss for Negros First as she surrendered three runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

Negros First tallied 12 hits in the losing effort with Rodalyn Villanueva, Joecel Cabato and Maguad each having multiple hits.

Southeast drew first blood but this was quickly negated by back-to-back scores from Negros First. Southeast managed to tie things up at two in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Southeast broke the deadlock for good in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kathy Garcia-Soto grounded out, scoring one run.

Saylor Clark got the win for Southeast as she allowed three hits and zero runs over three and a third innings, striking out one and walking zero. Haley Magin led Southeast with three hits in three at bats./PN
