BACOLOD City – An executive assistant of Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has been charged with malversation of public funds at the Sandiganbayan.
According to the Office of the Ombudsman that filed the complaint, Eric Loretizo failed to liquidate P2.8 million in cash advances.
Loretizo, then Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner, “willfully, unlawfully and feloniously” failed to account for a total of P2.8 million cash advances released for his domestic and foreign official travels, allowances and field or activity operating expenses from 2006 to 2011 “after a period of two months from the date the accounts should have been rendered,” the Ombudsman complained.
Under Commission on Audit Circular No. 97-002, Loretizo should have liquidated his travel expenses within 30 days from his return to his permanent official station in case of local travel, and within 60 days in case of foreign travel.
Loretizo, in a text message to Panay News, said he has yet to receive a copy of the Ombudsman complaint.
“But let me state that not a single centavo was malversed,” he stressed.
He added that “funds being referred to in the complaint were used for my official functions as PSC commissioner from December 2007 until July 2010.”/PN
