New Iloilo

MAYOR-ELECT Jerry has made it clear. Of course, with a new administration coming in the newly-elected honcho has the right to assert his own vision and aspirations for the City of Iloilo. And he can only do this with the aid and cooperation of his own huo-men.

So, to those in city hall who have been identified with Joe…time to go. So long…they’ll have a good time…without you.

But then, some of the suspects are regular employees with Civil Service Eligibility…who can only be removed for cause provided for by law. And you know how long due process takes.

Another thing to consider is that these guys are qualified professionals and useful in government service. Their only malfeasance…is that they voted for Joe. Maybe as a gesture of pardon, Mayor Jerry can line them up to be shot at Plaza Libertad or take a mass oath of allegiance. Anyway, that’s what he did when Mayor Du30 became President Dodirty…Du30.

The change bruited around does not seem to gel. You see, the Mayor-re-elected-again-and-again has served as our city mayor for three consecutive terms and another three consecutive terms as congressman, sufficient time to make substantial changes during his terms. But this is now. What changes are to be made?

Come to think of it…PECO was changed to MORE, right? Because the improvements, infrastructures, drainage canals, roads, unnamed projects, undertaken 20 years ago has outlived its usefulness and deteriorated. The young luscious lasses have grown old and their flowers wilted.

With the rainy season setting in…come July the new administration has a lot of un-clogging to do.

So that the new administration has to really work hard to fulfil their assurances to the people…outgoing Joe…should see to it that there is nothing left in the Treasury. This is the tradition of every outgoing politician, that what is in the Treasury is what he has earned. Thus, it is but proper that it should be spent…leaving Geronimo nothing.

Now, this is the great challenge. I suppose, after an audit, there will be high-blood pressure below room temperature.

From my recollections, we can expect:

* A grand Inauguration where everyone’s First Lady will be introduced for identification. Those who voted for Joe will be there and clap the most.

* The Kagawads will jostle for the best room available as befits their ranking. There is always appropriation to cover renovation expenses.

* There will be nothing passed during the First Session. There will be speeches, the Kagawads will introduce and extol themselves; thank their supporters and continue with the promises.

* Then they will converge at the Mayor’s Office to discuss the chairmanship of various committees; Project of Partition and matters which do not concern us.

* Thereafter, only Bombo and Aksyon Radyo know. (muzones_law_office@yahoo.com/PN)
