ILOILO City – Western Visayas’ new police director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, vowed to continue the internal cleansing in the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) started by his predecessor, Police Brigadier General John Bulalacao.
At yesterday’s turnover of command in Camp Delgado here, Pamuspusan also said curbing crimes is another priority together with the campaign against illegal drugs.
“I assure the men and women of PRO-6 that I will not demand from you those which I am not willing to do myself,” said Pamuspusan whose last assignment was as chief of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Headquarters Support Service in Camp Crame.
The police general also stressed the importance of transparency in police fund management and procurement of equipment, and good police-community relations.
Pamuspusan, 54, is the 34th director of the PRO-6. He and Bulalacao, 56, belonged to Philippine Military Academy’s Class “Maringal” 1988.
Bulalacao retired from the service yesterday.
A native of Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Pamuspusan had stints at the police regional offices of Region 4A (CALABARZON), Region 1 (Ilocos Region), Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), and National Capital Region.
He had also been assigned to PNP national support units such as the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Police Security and Protection Group.
Further, he had served three PNP directorates (Directorate for Operations, Directorate for Comptrollership and Directorate for Police Community Relations) and the PNP Command Group (Office of the Chief Directorial Staff, Office of the Deputy Chief for Operations and the Office of the Deputy Chief for Administration).
The turnover of command yesterday was officiated by Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, the PNP deputy chief for operations.
Bulalacao, the 33rd PRO-6 director beginning in June 2018, was given sunset parade and departure honors – a traditional way of sending-off a retiring star-rank officer in the PNP.
As PRO-6 director, Bulalacao imposed organizational discipline and internal cleansing. He stressed the importance of the PRO-6 maintaining the public’s trust and confidence.
His other thrusts were the campaigns against illegal drugs and crimes and curbing if not totally stopping the involvement of policemen in illegal activities such as drug pushing or using.
The exiting Region 6 police director said he looked forward to spending more time with his family.
“Matagal na hindi ko nakasama ang aking pamilya dahil sa trabaho. So this time ibibigay ko time ko sa pamilya,” said Bulalacao.
