KALIBO, Aklan – All soon-to-be elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in the province must attend the mandatory training program this May.
The training will only last a day and will be conducted by batches from May 17 to 26 at the Aklan State University (ASU) campuses in the province, just in time before the new SK officials could assume office on June 30.
ASU campuses are located in Kalibo, Banga, New Washington, and Ibajay.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) spearheads the SK training program in collaboration with the ASU and the National Youth Commission.
The training program is provided for under Republic Act 10742, or the SK Reform Act of 2015.
DILG provincial director Roy Defino said the topics in the training include local governance and decentralization, planning and budgeting, SK features and history, meetings and resolutions, code of conduct, and ethical standards for public employees and officials.
There are 327 barangays in Aklan. Each barangay will spend P1,600 for every SK kagawad and SK chairperson they will send to the training.
SK officials from Banga, Balete, Madalag, Altavas, and Libacao will attend the training at the ASU-Banga campus while those from Lezo, Makato, Kalibo, Numancia, and Malinao, at the ASU-Kalibo campus.
SK officials from Tangalan, Ibajay, Nabas, Malay, and Buruanga, meanwhile, will be trained at the ASU-Ibajay campus.
Those from New Washington and Batan, on the other hand, will be trained at the ASU-New Washington campus. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
