BACOLOD City — Preparations are ongoing for the upcoming Bacolod Flood Control Summit, but no final schedule has been set yet, city officials confirmed.
Councilor Homer Bais, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on infrastructure, said the summit will take place after the MassKara Festival celebrations.
“The date will be announced soon,” Bais said, urging the public to take part and share their ideas on addressing the city’s flooding problems.
The initiative is being spearheaded by Lone District Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez, who said the summit aims to gather all concerned sectors to develop real and doable solutions to Bacolod’s recurring flood issues.
“To address the flooding in our city, we are convening a flood control summit to discuss and adopt practical solutions,” Benitez said. “This is not about pointing fingers — it’s about rolling up our sleeves and working together to protect lives, homes, and livelihoods.”
He said the event will bring together residents, experts, national and local government officials, contractors, and other stakeholders from Bacolod and nearby areas.
Meanwhile, Mayor Greg Gasataya said the city government continues to implement flood mitigation measures, including the clearing and dredging of major waterways, especially in flood-prone areas.
As part of the preparations for the summit, Benitez invited the public to share their experiences, suggestions, and recommendations by scanning the QR code posted on his official Facebook page, “Albee Benitez.”
All collected inputs, he said, will be consolidated and presented during the summit to help guide actionable strategies toward building a safer and more flood-resilient Bacolod./PN
