ILOILO City – Joint police operatives apprehended a barangay tanod in a buy-bust operation around 10:20 p.m. on October 16, in Barangay San Jose, Arevalo district.
The suspect, identified as alias “Bert,” 51 years old, married, and resident of Barangay Jalandoni-Wilson, City Proper district, was tagged as a street-level drug personality.
He was caught with 10 plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 25 grams, with an estimated street value of P170,000. Also recovered were the buy-bust money and non-drug-related items.
The anti-drug operation was led by the Iloilo City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), together with the Police Drug Enforcement Group 6, and the Regional Intelligence Unit 6.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
ICPO director Police Colonel Kim P. Legada condemned the involvement of the suspect, stressing that no one is above the law.
“This suspect deserves to be behind bars. He was entrusted to help law enforcers protect the community, not destroy it,” said Legada. “Ang kampanya sang aton kapulisan sa syudad wala sang pinilian. We continue to call for community support toward a unified effort to cleanse our city of illegal drugs,” he added.
Meanwhile, from October 1 to October 15, the ICPO arrested 41 drug suspects and confiscated approximately 1,813.7605 grams of suspected shabu valued at P12,333,571.40, and marijuana valued at P449,700./PN
