BACOLOD City – The city government under his watch has not permitted anyone yet from holding night markets, according to Mayor Alfredo Benitez.
He issued the clarification after receiving reports that over the weekend, some vendors held night markets on Ballesteros Street, Central Market (downtown area) and North Capitol Road.
“Wala pa kami kahatag sang official go-signal ukon clearance,” said Benitez during a press conference at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday.
He, however, acknowledged that night markets are good venues for Bacolodnon small and medium enterprises to earn.
“We will designate areas where night markets are allowed. We would like to help small businesses,” said Benitez.
The city government will regulate night markets.
“Indi sila magpagusto dira kon ano kadaku ibutang nila nga baligyaan,” said Benitez.
Last month, the city government allowed retailer-members of the Metro Bacolod Association, Inc. to hold a night market on Ballesteros Street during Saturdays and Sundays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. but only until June 30./PN
