BACOLOD City – Today the registration for the scheduled barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October ends.
“No more extension,” stressed Mavil Majarucon-Sia, head of the city Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.
The city Comelec office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
Only a few applicants headed to the Comelec office in the past few days, Sia noted.
Either satellite registrations reduced the number of applicants or some have lost interest in the elections in light of reports that they might be postponed, she said.
Voter registrations for previous elections would see an influx of applicants as the deadline neared, Sia said.
The registration for the barangay and SK elections this year started on Nov. 7 last year.
As of April 28, a total of 15,000 applications are scheduled for an Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing on May 15, Sia said.
The city Comelec office have conducted 120 sattelite registrations in the barangays from November 2016 to April 2017, records showed.
Since nothing is final with the proposed postponement, the city Comelec office will follow the calendar of activities the national office has set, Sia said.
“We are preparing for the barangay and SK elections,” she stressed.
After the registration, Comelec will next work on the validation of all applications for registration.
Sia said they will, among others, check if there are applicants already registered with other local governments and remove from the list deceased registered voters./PN
