BACOLOD City – Several restrooms at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) are currently undergoing renovation at no expense to the city government, thanks to the generosity of private individuals.
According to Mayor Greg Gasataya, around 10 restrooms will be improved gradually. The initiative was made possible after some friends of his wife, Maita, committed to sponsor the renovations during his inauguration on June 28.
Mayor Gasataya said he does not know the exact amount spent per restroom, as the sponsors — whose identities are being withheld — are handling the costs directly. Nonetheless, he expressed his gratitude for their generosity and community spirit.
“If we all do our part, Bacolod City will benefit. We shouldn’t rely solely on the government; a lot can be accomplished through shared effort,” he said.
The mayor also acknowledged Councilor Al Victor Espino for extending assistance toward the renovation project.
He encouraged other individuals or groups who wish to help the city to coordinate with the City Mayor’s Office to ensure proper implementation of future projects.
Meanwhile, the city is also planning to improve the restrooms at the Bacolod Public Plaza. However, this will only commence once the cleaning of the septic tank is completed.
Mayor Gasataya clarified that although the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has scheduled a redevelopment project at the plaza, it will not cover the restroom renovation.
TIEZA has allocated P300 million for the redevelopment of both the BCGC in Barangay Villamonte and the heritage plaza in the downtown area.
“The TIEZA project will focus mainly on the fountain and lighting improvements,” the mayor explained./PN
