ILOILO City – “Judge not that you will not be judged.”
Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon quoted this Bible verse as reaction to the query on what he had possibly told President Rodrigo Duterte about Iloilo City during a meeting in Davao City in March this year.
Ganzon denied speaking ill of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. In the 2016 elections, he ran for councilor under the mayor’s group.
“Wala ko ‘ya gaintriga. Lalaki ko ‘ya sugilanonon, may isang salita,” said Ganzon.
Though he claimed in April that he had been made the President’s point man in Iloilo City, Ganzon also said yesterday he had no direct access to Duterte.
“Wala ko ya direct contact with President Duterte. Ano gid ang isugid ko abi, gakalatabo di bala ano haw?” said Ganzon.
Mabilog’s wife Maria Victoria recently uploaded on her Facebook account a photo of Ganzon and a few others having snacks with Duterte. The unedited caption read, “Guessing time. What do you think Jeffrey Ganzon is telling Digong about Digong’s unfair comments and misconceptions of Iloilo City?”
“Indi sila magpasibangod sa wala man ‘ya ga-intriga,” said Ganzon.
President Duterte has repeatedly tagged the city mayor a coddler of illegal drugs.
The Mabilogs are currently abroad. They left the country last week of August. Though Maria Victoria is a Canadian citizen, she has declined to confirm or deny that they are in Canada.
In previews internet interviews, she confessed to being worried about her husband’s safety.
“Kon ang iya ‘ya gina-akusar da si banahon ‘ya, ti ila na ‘ya personal nga magsabat…sabton nila ‘ya kon may sala sila,” said Ganzon.
Mayor Mabilog had denied being an illegal drug protector, pusher or user.
Ganzon did not discount the possibility that others with political agenda could be behind the illegal drug intrigue against Mabilog.
“Daw natural lang na guro sa pulitika nga may ara gaintriga sa iya. Sin-o ga-ambisyon da haw? Ako ‘ya wala ko ‘ya kadeklarar kon ano ambisyon ko kay ga-focus ko sa pag-eskwela ko, gapangita pa ko palangabuhian sa pamilya,” said Ganzon.
He revealed that the mayor’s brother JV once asked him for help. He said he told JV, “Wala ko ‘ya direct access (to the President).”
But this MassKara Festival of Bacolod City that the President is expected to grace, Ganzon said he would try to seek an audience with the country’s chief executive.
What would he tell the President?
“Ti ang Iloilo, so far, indi gid man amo sina no,” said Ganzon.
Duterte branded Iloilo “most shabulized” last year and recently as “bedrock of illegal drugs.”
“Sa kay mayor ‘ya ti damo na ‘ya guro naga-intriga sa iya. One thing I can assure you, never na ‘ya naghalin sa akon direct sa Presidente nga maghambal negative against sa city,” said Ganzon./PN
