MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to recommend a replacement for Judy Taguiwalo after the Commission on Appointments (CA) rejected her as secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Majority of the 24-member CA did not approve Taguiwalo’s appointment on Wednesday.
“As of now po, wala pa. Wala po kaming… walang dumarating sa akin na pangalan at hindi po natin alam,” said Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella at a press briefing in Malacañang yesterday.
Abella also said President Duterte respects the decision of the CA.
Taguiwalo was the third nominee to a Cabinet post the CA rejected. Former Foreign Affairs secretary Perfecto Yasay and former Environment secretary Gina Lopez also failed to hurdle their confirmation hearings.
“The President has repeatedly given full trust and support for Secretary Taguiwalo even when she sided with leftist groups opposing the President’s positions (on some issues),” said Abella.
Taguiwalo was endorsed to the post by the Communist Party of the Philippines – National Democratic Front.
“”We wish Secretary Taguiwalo all the best in her future endeavors. She knows she will always have the President’s gratitude and friendship for the time, albeit brief, that they spent together in the service of our people,” said Abella.
Meanwhile, Abella could not say whether the ex-Social Welfare chief will be appointed to another government post./PN
