No trade fair at Bacolod plaza

BACOLOD City – This city is still firm on its previous decision to disallow the utilization of the side of the Bacolod Public Plaza for the conduct of trade fairs.

This comes after the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod through Bishop Patricio A. Buzon has requested an approval from the city government to allow Aliah Limbo Ambor to hold the Summer Trade Fair at the plaza from April 15 to June 15, 2025.

It was learned that the portion of the plaza covers the sidewalk along Rizal Street that is under the jurisdiction of the diocese.

Last year, the city also disallowed a trade fair because according to Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez he was inclined not to allow the vendors there.

The city mayor added that he already discussed it with Bishop Buzon, stating that the plaza should not be hampered.

“I told him that we will find ways on how we can help them because the funds they will generate from the trade fair will be for the retirement expenses,” he said.

Last Wednesday, the request of the diocese was part of the agenda of the City Council but it was referred to the City Mayor’s Office./PN
