BACOLOD City – Vending in areas intended for pedestrian use around three public markets are now prohibited.
City hall started implementing the “no vending policy” on Wednesday at Libertad, Central and Burgos markets.
From 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, no vending will be allowed in the following areas:
* along Amelia, Hernaez and Mabini streets at the Libertad market
* along Burgos Street at the Burgos market
* along Bonifacio Street at the Central market
Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, chief coordinator of the Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force, met with stakeholders at the old city hall on Tuesday to discuss the new policy.
Under the policy, street vendors may ply their trade 3 meters from the main public market structure.
The policy aims to give vendors operating within the public markets space to load and unload their products, and make the subject areas cleaner and free from obstruction, the local government said.
Stricter pickup hours for garbage at the public markets were also implemented starting Wednesday: Libertad market, 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Burgos market, 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Central market, not later than 7 a.m.
Moreover the Bureau of Fire Protection will also conduct daily flushing inside the markets and quarterly flushing outside the markets on the following schedule: Libertad market, 9 a.m., March 15; Central market, 8 p.m., March 16; Burgos market, 1 p.m., March 17./PN
