BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) advised beachgoers to be cautious when celebrating the feast day of St. John the Baptist, locally known as “San Juan.”

Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said adult beachgoers should “drink moderately” or not at all to avoid drowning.

Catalogo also advised the public to secure their houses before leaving to avoid burglary.

Catalogo said police stations across the province were ordered to set up police assistance desks and coordinate with local tourism offices to ensure the safety of beachgoers.

In Bacolod City, Police Station 9 commander Captain Michael Tuburan said they met with the barangay council of Barangay Punta Taytay and Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) for the San Juan feast.

The BTAO will reroute the traffic beginning 6 a.m. today.

The Villarosa road near a fastfood chain will be one-way only and the exit will be at Crossing Punta Taytay along Araneta Street.

Motorists may also enter through the Punta-Taytay Crossing, which will become a two-way road, but only until Resorts Negrense. From there, motorists will need to make a U-turn.

Police Station 9 will also enforce right-side parking in coordination with resort owners and barangay officials to prevent traffic congestion.

Tuburan further stated they have requested additional police personnel from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to be deployed to beach resorts.

They will also establish a command post along with barangay tanods and other force multipliers./PN
