ILOILO City – Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) new director, Police Colonel Eric Dampal, dissuaded cops from getting entangled in illegal activities, especially in narcotics trade and illegal gambling.

Dampal, who replaced Police Colonel Martin Defensor, stressed that getting involved in any form of unscrupulous activities is unacceptable and he will never allow this under his watch.

He vowed to impose “stiffer sanctions” against erring policemen.

“Those who will be caught violating my order will suffer stiffer penalty. They have to face administrative sanctions,” Dampal said, citing his main thrusts to eradicate illegal drugs and illegal gambling, and ICPO internal cleansing.

Dampal said that aside from internal cleansing, he will also focus more on police visibility to fight petty crimes and lawless elements.

“I want to see more police personnel on the field especially in areas where more crimes usually happened. We expect that the regional headquarters will send us more men,” said Dampal. 

He added that despite he is new to Iloilo City, he assured that the programs left by his predecessor will be continued.

Dampal instructed his police chiefs to strengthen their barangay information network to gather more information on the presence of criminal elements who will be doing criminal acts.

He also said that as part of preventive measures, police presence will be maintain especially in the subdivisions, that are the primary targets  of the Akyat Bahay gang and robbery incidents.

Upon his assumption on Feb. 20, Police Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan told Dampal his three marching orders, to carry himself with dignity so that his men will follow him, no take policy must be observed and solve the case of businessman Delfin Britanico./PN
