ROXAS City – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in Western Visayas is working hard to bring the facilitated subscriber identity module (SIM) registration (FSR) to 40 areas in the region by April 26.

This was disclosed by NTC-6 officer-in-charge Leah Doromal amid the 12th rollout of FSR in the region at the civic center of Maayon, Capiz on Wednesday, March 1, since the initiative was launched in Carles, Iloilo on Jan. 27.

The FSR in Maayon was a pilot activity for the province of Capiz. President Roxas and Panay towns followed on March 2 and 3, respectively.

Doromal said the same undertaking will also be scheduled in Jamindan, Mambusao and Cuartero towns, among others.

The day-long FSR in Maayon successfully registered 530 SIM cards that include 334 Smart subscribers and 196 Globe SIM card users. Seventy-two from among the served subscribers are senior citizens.

Republic Act 11934 mandates the public to register their SIM cards before the deadline set on April 26, 2023.

The activity was also an opportunity for Maayon mayor Raymond Malapajo to convey to the representatives of the telecommunication companies the town’s need for additional telecommunication infrastructures to address the “dead spot areas” and further improve telecommunication services in the municipality.
