MANILA – The National University Pep Squad is gearing up for its undertaking of a fourth straight championship in the UAAP Season 79 Cheerdance Competition today at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
NU Pep Squad head coach Ghika Bernabe said they have prepared hard for the competition as they will perform their “most difficult routine yet” in their quest for a historic 4-peat victory.
“Siguro ‘yung gagawin namin sa Sabado ang pinakamahirap na routine namin,” Bernabe said. “Hindi kasi namin binago ‘yung pace na mabilis pero nadagdagan ‘yung level ng difficulty.”
“Hindi naman kasi kami pwedeng mag-stay dun sa ginagawa namin dati kasi ‘yung ibang teams nagi-improve rin,” she added. “Kaya we have to step up ten times in this competition.”
The NU Pep Squad mounted a rousing performance during the UAAP Season 78 edition with its Stone Age-inspired routine, claiming 668 points on six penalties incurred.
“Every year naman pabigat ng pabigat ang pressure pero iyon naman na ang ine-embrace ng team since nag champion kami,” Bernabe said. “Nag-set na kami ng standard, dapat pangatawanan na natin ‘to.”
First to perform is the De La Salle University Animo Squad followed by runner-up Salinggawi Dance Troupe from the University of Sto. Tomas and the Ateneo de Manila University’s Blue Babble Battalion.
The Far Eastern University Cheering Squad takes the floor fourth and will be followed by the Adamson University Pep Squad, University of the East Pep Squad and the NU Pep Squad.
The University of the Philippines Pep Squad has decided not to join this year’s competition as it will take part in the Asian Cheerleadingand Dancesport Competition in Singapore./PN
