MANILA – A senatorial aspirant who wants to marry Sen. Imee Marcos is among those who filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 national and local elections before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday.
Daniel Magtira, who was declared a nuisance candidate several times, told the media at the Manila Hotel that he wants to marry the presidential sister.
Magtira previously declared that he is a boyfriend, and later husband, of actress Kris Aquino when he filed his COC during the 2016, 2019, and 2022 polls.
“Eh si Kris Aquino hindi ko alam kung nasaang planeta siya eh, kaya magpapakasal na lang ako kay Imee Marcos,” said the 63-year-old Magtira, a native of Tondo, Manila.
AGRI party-list’s Rep. Wilbert Lee was the first to file his COC for senator. He will be running under the Aksyon Demokratiko political coalition along with former vice presidential aspirant Dr. Willie Ong.
Lee promises to lower food prices, increase job opportunities, and improve healthcare access once given a chance to serve at the Senate.
Sen. Francis Tolentino, who was part of the administration’s Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas Senate slate, also filed his COC for his re-election bid.
“Most probably, we’ll try to harvest the gains of the current administration relative to economic recovery and some focus on foreign relations and defense matters as well,” Tolentino said.
“So it’s more of continuing what I’ve been doing right now, as well as helping the current administration achieve its aims, especially in uplifting the lives of the soon to emerge 14% new middle class in addition to the existing middle class that we have now,” he added.
Dr. Joey Montemayor, a physician and lawyer by profession, also filed his COC for a Senate seat after losing to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during the 2022 presidential elections.
Others who filed their COC are agriculturist David Chan, electrician carpenter Alexander Encarnacion, teacher Janice Padilla, political blogger Marc Gamboa, Jose Olivares, Joseph Dee, Najar Salih, and Happy Lubarbio./PN
