‘Old grudge’ leads to shooting in Oton

ILOILO – A 37-year-old butane canister seller was shot dead by an unidentified gunman around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, in Barangay Sambaludan, Oton town.

Police identified the victim as alias “Bernardo”, a resident of Barangay Baybay Norte, Miag-ao town but temporarily residing in Barangay Botong, Oton.

Lieutenant Colonel Abner Jordan, chief of the Oton Municipal Police Station (MPS), said the victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his stomach while undergoing treatment at Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City on Thursday morning, August 8.

Jordan said Bernardo and his 12-year-old child were onboard a motorcycle to deliver butane canisters to his customer when he was shot by the suspect.

The child was unharmed, the police chief said.

Jordan said that based on their initial investigation, old grudge was seen as the motive in shooting.

Oton MPS was still investigating the incident as of this writing to identify the gunman./PN
