ILOILO – One individual lost his life while another sustained injuries following a stabbing incident in Barangay Balibagan Este, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo on Sunday night, Feb. 25.
The fatality was identified as Jeffrey Songcuya.
According to Major Jose Rey Pabalan, chief of the Sta. Barbara Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred during a birthday celebration, where a commotion ensued.
Songcuya’s cousin, Romel Maquiling, came to his aid but was also stabbed.
Songcuya was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, while Maquiling remains hospitalized after sustaining a stab wound to the eye.
The knife, believed to have been used in the altercation, was recovered from the scene.
Pabalan said they are yet to ascertain the motive but disclosed that it was likely over an old grudge.
As of now, the suspect remains at large, but the police have identified a person of interest./PN
