Only one PUI remains in Bacolod – CHO

BACOLOD City – The number of patients under investigation (PUIs) for the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in this city is down to only one as of Tuesday, the City Health Office said.

According to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who chairs the city’s inter-agency task force against the 2019-nCoV, there were eight (not nine as earlier reported) PUIs recorded in several hospitals here.

“Of the eight that were quarantined, seven of them were already discharged in the hospitals after the results of the confirmatory testing from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) turned out negative,” he said.

Familiaran explained that the last person that had check up in the afternoon of Feb. 10 was only classified as a person under monitoring (PUM).

“In fact, after reassessment and reevaluation by our infectious consultants, the patient was sent home as PUM,” the vice mayor noted.

On the other hand, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bago City, Negros Occidental has passed a resolution deferring the celebration of the 54th Charter Day anniversary of Bago City slated on Feb. 11 to 19.

The resolution dated Feb. 10 cited that it is the intention of the local government officials and functionaries of the said city to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the constituency and the visiting tourists and guests during fiestas and celebrations.

The same resolution also cited that the Department of Health issued an advisory stating that with the ongoing threat of the spread of the 2019-nCoV strongly urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees thus recommending the cancellation of such planned big events or mass gatherings until further advise./PN
