ILOILO City – Seventy-two taxi drivers were caught under Oplan Isnabero as of Friday, Dec. 30.
Today is the last day of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 6’s operation.
Anticipating a surge in commuters during the holidays, the LTFRB launched Oplan Isnabero on Dec. 14 to prevent taxi drivers from being picky with passengers.
The operation plan also penalizes cabbies who will not give change to passengers, wear identification card, drive safely, and help people with disabilities, pregnant women and senior citizens.
Of the 72 drivers, 55 were apprehended for not wearing uniforms, said LTFRB Region 6 spokesperson Jose Marie Lamparero.
Seventeen complaints were against the cabbies’ arrogant demeanor, refusal to take passengers, non-issuance of receipt, or non-use of taxi meters.
Taxi operators will be fined P5,000 for the first offense. Succeeding offenses may result to the suspension of franchise or driver’s license.
The LTFRB and the Land Transportation Office created roving teams to monitor taxi drivers.
Apprehended taxi drivers will be summoned by the LTFRB in January 2017, said Lamparero.
If a complainant pursues a complaint, they will be required to submit an affidavit. After which, a hearing will be set./PN
