MANILA – Generika-Ayala Lifesavers barged into the win-column of the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference after a 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 sweep over Marinerang Pilipinas Lady Skippers on Tuesday at San Juan Arena.

Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain put up an all-around performance of 18 points, including 15 attacks, a pair of aces and a block, to go along with 16 digs and eight excellent receptions for the Lifesavers (1-1).

Marivic Meneses and Ilongga Fiola Ceballos had 11 points each while Angeli Araneta added eight markers for the Lifesavers, which bounced back from a 12-25, 21-25, 17-25 loss to F2 Logistics Cargo Movers last Saturday.

“This is win is a huge help for us, especially the morale of the team, as the league just started,” said Generika-Ayala head coach Sherwin Meneses. “I’m glad that we managed to recover from our first game loss. I hope that we could sustain this good morale.”

The Lifesavers easily took the first two sets and were poised to pulling off an easy straight set victory after erecting a 23-16 spread in the third set from Mean Mendrez’s attack.

But the Lady Skippers, led by Dimdim Pacres and Chiara Permentilla, unleashed a 7-1 scoring run to cut the deficit to one. But Ceballos came to the rescue and denied the expansion team’s comeback hopes.

Pacres was the lone double digits scorer with 11 points while Permentilla scored seven markers off the bench for the Lady Skippers, which suffered its second three-set defeat following an opening-day loss to Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors./PN
