BACOLOD City – Around 2,100 police officers will secure the delegates of the 15th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI) at the SMX Convention Center from March 22 to 23.

Some 80 delegates, including senior representatives from the ministries in charge of information in the 10 ASEAN member states and officers from the ASEAN Secretariat, are expected to attend.

Undersecretary Noel George Puyat of the Presidential Communications Operations Office is the chairman of the SOMRI meeting.

Officers from the Philippine National Police national headquarters will beef up forces from units of the Police Regional Office 18.

Today there will be a send-off ceremony at 8 a.m. and a final pre-deployment conference at 9 a.m. for Task Group Bacolod, which is leading security operations for the ASEAN meeting, at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Eighty-five people will compose the ASEAN meeting support staff — 60 tourism and hotel management students of La Consolacion College-Bacolod will serve as ushers and usherettes, while 25 city hall employees will be liaison officers.

Delegates of the 15th SOMRI Meeting will discuss strategies to intensify the awareness, understanding and appreciation of the ASEAN Community, and policy recommendations and work programs to strengthen the information and media sectors of ASEAN member states. (PNA)
