ROXAS City – More than 50 barangays in Capiz were flooded as rains battered the province amid tropical depression “Urduja.”

Around 300 families, particularly those living in coastal and flood-prone areas, have been evacuated, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Esperidion Pelaez.

Sigma had the most number of submerged barangays with 16. Panitan had 11 flooded barangays; Panay, seven; Mambusao, six; Roxas City, five; and Dumalag and Maayon, two each.

Children brought to evacuation centers had fever and colds, medical personnel said.

Rural health physicians were providing them appropriate medications.

City Social Welfare and Development Office personnel were preparing hundreds of food packs for evacuees, especially those from the coastal villages of Punta Cogon, Cogon, Dumolog, and Baybay.

Trips of small boats ferrying passengers from Roxas City to Masbate and Sibuyan Island in Romblon were suspended upon the advice of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Several trucks were also stranded at the Culasi port in Roxas City on Saturday after the Coast Guard suspended the trips of roll-on, roll-off vessels.

The inclement weather also resulted in the cancellation of a Philippine Airlines flight from Roxas City to Manila yesterday morning.

Cebu Pacific flights from Manila to Roxas were cancelled, too, on Saturday. Passengers were advised to reschedule and rebook their flights./PN
