GUIMARAS — More than 8,900 children in Guimaras have received measles-rubella (MR) vaccines under the Ligtas Tipdas MR-SIA 2026 campaign, with the provincial health office intensifying its efforts to reach more eligible children before the program ends on August 28.
Data presented during the monthly Provincial Health Board meeting showed that 8,995 children had been vaccinated as of 8 p.m. on August 25, representing 54.1 percent of the province’s target population of 16,637.
Sibunag posted the highest vaccination coverage among the province’s five municipalities at 58.1 percent, followed by Jordan at 57.2 percent and Nueva Valencia at 55.2 percent.
Buenavista recorded 51.9 percent coverage, while San Lorenzo had 48.7 percent.
With only a few days remaining in the immunization drive, Gov. Ma. Lucille L. Nava, MD, directed the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to intensify local information campaigns and encourage more parents and caregivers to have their children vaccinated.
The Ligtas Tipdas MR-SIA 2026 campaign provides supplemental measles-rubella immunization and Vitamin A supplementation to infants and children aged 6 to 59 months.
Provincial health authorities said the vaccines are safe, effective and provided free of charge as part of efforts to protect children from measles and rubella.
Parents and guardians are urged to check local vaccination schedules and bring eligible children to their nearest Rural Health Unit or barangay health center before the campaign concludes on August 28.
The PHO continues to encourage families to take advantage of the remaining days of the campaign to help increase vaccination coverage and strengthen protection against vaccine-preventable diseases./PN
