ANTIQUE – As of this writing, most of the estimated 120 families displaced by rain-induced floods in this province on Saturday, July 30, have re turned to their respective houses.
The rains were brought by Tropical Depression Ester.
According to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Broderick, the displaced families were from the towns of Hamtic, San Jose and Sibalom.
Flooding happened in the following barangays of these towns:
* Sibalom – barangays Catungan I, Catungan II, Catungan III, Catungan IV, and Igcocok
* San Jose – barangays Bugarot, Inabasan, Maybato North, Supa, Bariri, Bagumbayan, and San Pedro
* Hamtic – barangays Piapi I, Calala and Pu-ao
The affected families lived near creeks or rivers, or in low-lying areas, said Train.
They temporarily sought shelter in barangay halls, elementary schools and barangay covered gyms.
“Nagsaka ang tubig kag amo to nagdugang sa mga water tributaries,” Train told Panay News.
The three towns’ respective Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices released relief goods to the displaced.
“Nag-umpisa ulan sang July 27. Pagka-July 29 amo to ang grabe lawig nga ulan,” said Train.
He expressed confidence that flood damage to livelihood and agriculture was minimal.
