Overhaul of Guimaras police officials looms

ILOILO City – For poor performance in the campaign against illegal drugs, the provincial police director of Guimaras, Senior Superintendent Julio Gustilo, and his five municipal police chiefs may be relieved from their posts.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters in Camp Crame is currently conducting an assessment, according to Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, regional police director.

It was previously reported that the Guimaras Police Provincial Office had zero accomplishment in the antidrug war but Gustilo argued this was because there were no more drug pushers in the island province.

Bulalacao, however, was doubtful. He ordered the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement (RDEU) to check Gustilo’s claim.

The RDEU managed to arrest a shabu peddler there.

“A new breed of police officers should head Guimaras,” said Bulalacao.
The police director also lamented that local government officials in Guimaras appeared to be in denial vis-à-vis the island’s illegal drug situation.

“Our intelligence officers say there are drug personalities in Guimaras and the island has become a transshipment point ng drugs being shipped to Iloilo from Negros Occidental,” said Bulalacao./PN
