BACOLOD City – The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) is implementing a P0.6246 power rate increase this January.
Danny Pondevilla, Ceneco general manager, said the upward adjustment is due to the increase in generation and transmission fees and system loss and other pass through charges.
The monthly power rate is now at P10.4696per kilowatt-hour (kWh) from the previous P9.8450 per kWh.
By June, Pondevilla said they are targeting a P1 decrease in electricity rates, which can be achieved if the generation power contract will be reduced.
“Reducing the power generation contract may result to the reduction also of generation charges,” Pondevilla explained.
He disclosed the 40-megawatt contract with Kepco Salcon Power Corporation is expected to toll by May and it means that Ceneco will purchase 20 megawatt only.
Ceneco contracted a 40-megawatt deal and another 24-megawatt with KSPC, which will expire in 2021 and 2022, respectively. /PN
