CAPIZ – Two major infrastructure projects in the province, with a combined cost of nearly P100 million, are now nearing completion and are set to open soon, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on May 23.
These projects include the construction of a new Provincial Cultural and Sports Center at Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, worth P85 million, and the development of a farm-to-mill road (FMR) in Panitan town, amounting to P12.7 million.
According to District Engineer Cecil Lawrence Cruz, in a report submitted to DPWH-6 director Sanny Boy Oropel, the infrastructure projects aim to boost accessibility and promote socio-economic growth in the province.
The Provincial Cultural and Sports Center is envisioned as a premier venue for sporting events, cultural performances, and large community gatherings. It features a spacious multi-purpose hall and an indoor sports area with ample seating capacity to host major regional events.
Meanwhile, the FMR project, which connects Barangays Balatucan and Timpas in Panitan, consists of a 556.5-lineal meter concrete road and a 152.88-meter stone masonry component.
Prior to the construction, residents and farmers struggled with a muddy and damaged road that became nearly impassable during the rainy season. The improved road is expected to enhance connectivity, ease the transport of goods and services, and improve access to essential facilities for local communities.
The DPWH and the provincial government remain on track for timely completion and are committed to delivering quality infrastructure that supports Capiz’s development goals./PN
