CEBU City – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas approved on Monday a P13 increase in the daily minimum wage.
Now the daily minimum pay in the region has been raised to P366 from P353.
But the Board will reconvene on Feb. 13 to discuss the effectivity of the wage adjustment and the areas of coverage.
The chairman, Department of Labor and Employment Region 7 director Exequiel Sarcauga, the cochairpersons Department of Trade and Industry regional director Asteria Caberte and National Economic and Development Authority regional director Efren Carreon attended the meeting.
Management representatives Philip Tan and lawyer Hedelito Pascial, and labor representatives Jose Tomungha and lawyer Ernesto Carreon were also present.
The Wage Board also approved the increase in the salary of house helps, or kasambahay, to P3,000 from P2,500.
Tomungha said the adjustment was based on the eroding purchasing power of the workers, with the peso value now down to P0.73.
Carreon said the adjustment also had to do with inflation, or the rate of change of prices compared to the previous year, and consumer price index, or the change of price structures. (PNA)
