AKLAN – An estimated P150,000 worth of meat products were seized in Barangay Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan on Monday, March 20.

The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Kalibo Agricultural Services Division and Philippine National Police received a tip on the alleged sale of the unauthorized items and made a transaction with the seller through a poseur buyer.

Unauthorized products are those without a complete label, including product and manufacturer information and a list of ingredients.

The owner of the goods failed to present valid documents, violating Provincial Ordinance No. 2021-011 series of 2021.

The confiscated items were properly disposed of in Barangay Tina, Makato, Aklan yesterday.

The provincial government of Aklan strengthened measures against the entry of African Swine Fever (ASF) after the hog disease was recorded in neighboring Capiz province.

Executive Order No. 21 issued by Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores on March 8 banned the entry of live swine, pork products, and by-products from areas affected by ASF.

Aklan remains a dark green zone or ASF-free. (With reports from RMN DYKR Kalibo)/PN
