ILOILO City – Today, the minimum taxi flagdown rate in Western Visayas – and nationwide – is officially at P40.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced the official date of implementation over the weekend.
The P40 flagdown was supposed to take effect Thursday last week but the regional LTFRB office deferred the implementation because it was yet to receive a copy of the order from its central office.
The P40 is for the first 500 meters. There is no increase of rates for the succeeding meters and waiting time.
LTFRB Region 6 finally received the order on the new flagdown rate on Saturday, confirmed Atty. Jose Marie Lamparero, spokesperson of regional office.
LTFRB, however, was silent on the fire hike petition of passenger jeepneys in Western Visayas. Last week, it approved a P1 increase in jeepney fare in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).
The increase from the P30 flagdown was based on the petition of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association. It cited the series of increases in fuel prices.
“Kun pila ang maggwa sa metro sang taxi sa pagsakay sang pasahero, amo na ini ang ila bayaran,” said Lamparero.
In 2014, LTFRB ordered a provisional P10 reduction in the then P40 flag down rate, citing a series of rollbacks in fuel prices.
March last year, the P30 flag down rate was made permanent.
The return to the P40 flag down rate was welcomed by taxi drivers and operators.
