Pa accidentally shoots son dead in Alimodian

ILOILO — A drunk 61-year-old farmer accidentally shot dead his 25-year-old son at their house in a remote village of Cabacanan Rizal in Alimodian, Iloilo, on December 5.

Alimodian police identified the suspect as alias “Jun” while the victim was alias “Keven.”

According to a report from the Alimodian Municipal Police Station (MPS), Jun went home at around 10 p.m. with his friend alias “John” from a neighbor’s birthday celebration.

Due to both being intoxicated, police said a heated argument ensued between them, which prompted Jun to punch John. The former then went inside his house to get his homemade 12-gauge shotgun, while John immediately left, fearing for his safety.

Keven, meanwhile, who was also drinking at a neighbor’s house, rushed home upon hearing the commotion. During an attempt to disarm his father to prevent any further escalation, the firearm accidentally went off, hitting Keven in the abdomen.

Residents immediately transported the victim to a nearby village where personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office were stationed. He was rushed to the Aleosan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

As of this writing, the suspect was in the custody of the Alimodian MPS for proper disposition.

Police Lieutenant Rolly Sorongon, deputy chief of the Alimodian MPS, said no prior conflicts were reported between Jun and his son./PN
