ILOILO City – A resident of Barangay Poblacion, Estancia, Iloilo was killed by neighbors, a police report showed.
Jeffery Corvera, 46, a casual employee of the municipal government, died of multiple hack and stab wounds.
Tagged as suspects were Nelson Torrico Sr., 64, and sons Nelson Jr., 29, Niel, 25, and Neljohn, 30.
Police Major Aldren Lamera, Estancia police chief, said a heated argument initially ensued between Corvera and the Torricos.
According to Lamera, Corvera was accusing the Torricos of stealing his cellphone.
“The victim posted on his Facebook that his cellular phone was missing. Damo nga mga gamit ang nagakaladula sa balay sang biktima kag ang gina-accuse nya permi ang mga suspects,” Lamera told Panay News.
Corvera was with his friend 31-year-old Ryan Villona when they were attacked by the suspects around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, Lamera said.
Corvera was able to run inside their house but the suspects chased and hacked him, the police chief added.
Corvera was rushed to the Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan, Iloilo but the attending physician declared him “dead on arrival.”
Villona, on the other hand, received treatment at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for stab wounds.
According to Lamera, Nelson admitted the crime but vouched that his three sons were not involved.
Citing intelligence report, Lamera disclosed that the suspects were engaged in illegal drugs, either as users or pushers.
The Estancia police took custody of the Torricos. They also recovered a knife and an axe.
Charges of murder and frustrated murder will be filed against the suspects./PN
