BACOLOD City – The cities of Kabankalan, Cadiz and San Carlos in Negros Occidental reported a significant rise in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 cases.
Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, said the spike in Kabankalan City was detected at a relocation site.
“The surge was aggravated when a COVID-19-positive person visited a wake and infected others,” he said.
Diaz said the spike in Cadiz City, on the other hand, occurred when City Health Office employees were infected by the virus.
“The increase in cases in San Carlos, meanwhile, can be attributed to the fact that it is a port area where vessels from Cebu dock,” he said.
However, in general the COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental were going down, said Diaz.
“Hospitals in the province are not overflowing with COVID-19 cases and provincial quarantine facilities are available,” he said.
Diaz attributed this to the vigilance of local officials in ensuring that measures are in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
The provincial government is improving the bed capacity of its hospitals to ensure that it is ready for a possible second wave of COVID-19 cases, Diaz added.
As of Oct. 27, Negros Occidental has a total of 1,481 active cases./PN
