MANILA – Sen. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao urged the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to “take appropriate action” on the Games and Amusement Board’s (GAB) request to review his fight against Jeff Horn on Sunday.

Pacquiao lost his WBO world welterweight belt to the undefeated Australian via unanimous decision in the “Battle of Brisbane” at the Suncorp Stadium.

“I had already accepted the decision but as a leader and at the same time fighter, I have the moral obligation to uphold sportsmanship, truth and fairness in the eyes of the public,” he said in a statement released on Wednesday.

“We would like to echo the stand of many boxing followers on the possible errors of the referee and judges who officiated the subject match,” the GAB wrote WBO president Francisco Valcarcel.

While Pacquiao respects the verdict — 115-113, 115-113, 117-111 in favor of Horn — there may be lapses on the part of referee Mark Nelson and judges Waleska Roldan, Chris Flores and Ramón Cerdán, the GAB said.

“We are constrained to request for a thorough review by the WBO to identify possible miscalls by the referee, where some deductions were not made, and of the judges in their judging,” the GAB said. “We make the call for a review, which may call for sanctions on the referee and the judges if so warranted.”

Pacquiao said the WBO should act appropriately on the matter “so as not to erode the people’s interest in boxing.”

“I love boxing and I don’t want to see it dying because of unfair decision and officiating,” the senator added./PN
