Palace denies harassment claim of lawyer before ICC

MANILA – Malacañang has denied the claim of lawyer Jude Sabio who filed a communication case before the International Criminal Court (ICC) against President Rodrigo Duterte that he was being harassed.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said on Monday that Sabio was just “hallucinating” after he claimed that he was being harassed by the Duterte administration.

Sabio said in an interview over the weekend that he was in “self-imposed hiding” after a Trece Martires court ordered his arrest for deficiency in his Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE).

Sabio also said that there is currently a “very serious threat” to his life after he went to The Hague to lodge his complaint against the President.

“He is hallucinating and just wants to publicize himself. There is no such animal as a warrant of arrest for a deficiency in the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education,” Panelo said.

“I suggest you check the arrest warrant, it must be in connection with a criminal case filed against him and not due to deficiency in the MCLE,” added by the Presidential spokesperson.

In 2018, Sabio filed a certificate of candidacy to run for Senator through liaison officer Rogelio Doydora but the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has declared him as a nuisance candidate./PN
