MANILA – Malacañang respects the cancellation of Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido’s reassignment in Iloilo City.

Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, on Saturday said Espenido will stay as Ozamiz City police chief.

A new chief was assigned to lead the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) – Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

“Everyone is enjoined to respect the order of the high command,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement on Sunday.

The cancellation was made three days after Camp Crame designated Espenido as ICPO officer-in-charge.

Abella believes the cancellation of Espenido’s reassignment was based on relevant merit.

“This is the decision reached by the leadership of the PNP following the established policies and procedures in the transfer, reassignment and designation of their personnel,” the presidential spokesperson said.

On Tuesday last week, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he was sending Espenido to Iloilo City where Jed Patrick Mabilog was mayor.

Duterte had linked Mabilog to the illegal drug trade but the mayor denied this.

The President had also branded Iloilo as “most shabulized” and “bedrock” of illegal drugs.

Two mayors linked to the illegal drug trade were killed in separate police operations where Espenido was chief of police./PN
