MANILA – Malacañang called for an investigation into the multibillion-peso Navy frigate contract entered into by the Benigno Aquino III administration with a Korean company.
Rep. Gary Alejano (Magdalo party-list) had claimed that Hyundai Heavy Industries was banned from participating in state-led bids in South Korea due to its alleged bribery cases in other countries.
“Congressman Alejano, salamat po. Dahil sa iyong sinabi, iimbestigahan na po natin iyong inyong mga kakampi noong nakalipas na administrasyon,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque told a press briefing in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
The transaction was already a done deal during the Aquino administration and the Duterte administration merely “performed a ministerial function” in giving the Notice of Award to the winning bidder, Roque stressed.
“Kung totoo na blacklisted iyong binigyan nila ng kontrata, dapat managot iyong mga opisyales ng mga nakalipas na administrasyon at sabihin sa atin bakit naging ganoon ang kanilang naging desisyon,” he said. (Presidential Communications Office/PN)
